How do I join Community United Church of Christ?

Getting to know if this congregation is a good fit: Hopefully you have already found new friends at Community UCC and have begun to engage in some of the work of the congregation. Quarterly we invite those new to CUCC to a Newcomers’ Supper to allow you to ask questions about the church and to discover other ways to be involved. If you haven’t heard about one yet, call the office to indicate your interest.  If you have detailed theological questions, schedule an appointment with the pastor, Steve Halsted.

Requesting membership:  Tell the pastor, Steve Halsted, that you would like to join Community United Church of Christ.   The two of you will meet to discuss the joining ceremony (which happens during worship) so that he can tailor it to meet anything unique to you, and together you will set a date.  If you are already a member at another church, he will arrange to transfer your membership.  Steve will inform the Deacons Ministry of your request, but there is no formal interview process nor is there anything you have to sign.

The joining ceremony:  You officially join the church through a ceremony during worship.  You promise to be part of the congregation, we promise to welcome and support you, and together we promise to seek to be a community who lives in the way Jesus taught and the Spirit inspires.
Youth join the church through participation in a year-long confirmation of faith class which weaves through church school.  If they then choose to be confirmed, they go through the same joining ceremony as adults; a special Confirmation Sunday in May includes that ceremony as well as the opportunity for them to address the congregation with a personal statement of where they are on their faith journey.  For more information on Confirmation, talk with Śānti Matthews, the youth leader.
Life after joining: We are on a journey together. Let us support you when you need help. Share your gifts of talent and money. Be Christ’s body in the wider community. Ask questions, challenge the status quo, dream big. Invite those you know to join you at a Community UCC event.
